Research

Do you ever wonder about the medications you take?  How do drug companies know a drug will work?  How do they know the dosage of a medication?  How do they know if there will be any side effects? Who do they test the drugs on?

Behind every medication, there are thousands of patients, just like you, who have volunteered to take an investigational medicine in order to answer the questions above and help put a new medication in your local drug store.

Patients, whether they are your family or friends, an acquaintance, a stranger, or even yourself, are the medical heroes of clinical trials.  As clinical trials have risks, volunteer participation is a courageous act.  Participation gives hope to the volunteer but more importantly benefits future patients.  Participation offers research medical care at no cost to you.

At Georgia Heart Specialists, we conduct clinical trials for various heart-related conditions.  Some of the investigational drugs we have tested have been for congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, heart attacks, hypertension and renal artery stenosis.  We work with various pharmaceutical companies.  Our research staff consists of our cardiologists and registered nurses who have taken extra training to become certified research professionals.

If you have ever thought about your medications and would like to participate in helping bring a new drug or medical equipment to the market, ask one of your cardiologists at Georgia Heart Specialists if they are currently conducting a study on your specific condition.
